Brasília: Monumental Messages

National Museum of the Republic

Brasília: Monumental Messages is a project that presents the Brasília Collection by Dutch Brazilian artist Júlia dos Santos Baptista, in dialogue with artworks created by public school students, in Brasília and several Admistrative Regions, during art workshops led by the artist herself. The project promotes heritage education and highlights art as an essential tool for learning and cultural expression.

Since 2005, when the circulation of the collection and the workshops first began, approximately 8,000 students have been impacted, fostering artistic creation, critical thinking, and the strengthening of cultural identity among children and youth. The initiative builds a bridge between schools and museums, placing students at the center of the creative process and reinforcing their sense of cultural belonging.

Whilst the Brasilia Collection is a very personal reflection of the artist’s hopes for belonging when she was a student herself, the workshops on the other hand, place the students at the center of the creative process, while building bridges between schools, museums and the public, and in doing so reinforcing their sense of cultural belonging as a group.

In this edition, the project aims to broaden its reach, further promoting inclusion and democratizing access to art. The exhibition will take place in Brasília, at the National Museum of the Republic, from october 24 till november 24 of 2025.
